The Institution

The Los Rios Community College District is a two-year public college district serving the greater Sacramento region. Our district includes American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges; major centers in Placerville, Davis, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Natomas and Rancho Cordova; and special services for business and industry.

Our colleges offer transfer education – students complete freshman and sophomore years and transfer to a four-year college or university – and AA/AS degrees and certificates in over 70 career fields. The District’s 2400 square mile service area includes Sacramento and El Dorado counties and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties. Approximately 75,000 plus students are enrolled in our four colleges and outreach centers.

The District office houses a number of district-wide services. These include the Chancellor’s office, Board Room, Legal Services, Business Services, Human Resources, Institutional Research, District Police Department, Resource Development and Information Technology. Other district-wide services which can be found at various locations around the community are the, Facilities Management Department and the Workforce and Economic Development Center. Each department strives for the highest quality in all programs, services, and activities for our communities and staff.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the assigned manager/supervisor, coordinates student success and support related programs, components and activities; assists in the planning, coordination, implementation and delivery of support programs and services associated with the college plans, including the college Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) plan; assists in planning and coordinating follow-up and retention activities for at-risk students including those on probation and dismissal.

Assignment Responsibilities

• Provides support for assigned college SSSP Plan activities, which may include required steps for priority enrollment, follow up and retention services, and serving on college committees related to student success.
• May assist appropriate manager/supervisor in budget development and coordination, and preparation of the required state and district reports.
• Assists in conducting program review and strategic planning for the SSSP programs.
• Participates in recommending and monitoring systems to provide and track support services to new students.
• May train staff to provide student support related services, including but not limited to follow-up and retention activities.
• May provide training and oversight of students and temporary classified employees involved in student services activities.
• Attends college, district, and departmental meetings in an effort to assist in ensuring coordination of support services, and follow-up activities.
• Assists in ensuring compliance with and implementation of student services related regulations, policies, and procedures.
• May assist in gathering and maintaining data and statistical information in an effort to ensure appropriate services are provided to students in compliance with district and state regulations, policies, and procedures.
• May oversee one or more college programs, including but not limited to: Student Ambassador Program; Freshman Welcome; Summer Success Academy / Summer Bridge; First Year Experience (FYE); Mentor Program; Group Planning Sessions (GPS).
• May provide coordination and planning, including but not limited to staffing, logistics, supplies, catering, etc. for assigned activities and events.
• Presents extended orientation activities to connect First Time in College (FTIC) students to college programs and services.
• Participates in evening and weekend events as needed.
• Prepares announcements, newsletters, and other forms of communication regarding SSSP related events, activities, programs and initiatives for dissemination to college personnel and students.
• Communicates with and advises students to move them through the Steps to Success and core services of assessment and educational planning.
• Assists students in their academic career by providing them referrals and resources to meet their educational and vocational career objectives.
• May assist with the development and presentation of professional development activities for faculty and staff to support SSSP.
• May develop, coordinate and conduct transition workshops and activities for entering students coming directly from high school.
• Performs related duties as required.

The following colleges are actively recruiting for this position with a schedule of:

ARC – To be determined.

FLC – To be determined.
SCC – 8:00AM – 5:00PM; Monday – Friday; Applications will be reviewed beginning July 6, 2017.

NOTE: Temporary classified positions are limited to 110 work days per fiscal year, per board regulation.

Special Requirements
Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Two years of related responsible experience in student services on a college campus or in a community agency that provides comparable services to students, or diverse community members.

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in a social science or related area. NOTE: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two years of the required education on a year-for-year basis.

Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement.

Education Requirement: 12 units are equal to six months of education; 24 units are equal to one year of education.)
