The Los Rios Community College District is a two-year public college district serving the greater Sacramento region. Our district includes American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges; major centers in Placerville, Davis, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Natomas and Rancho Cordova; and special services for business and industry.

Our colleges offer transfer education – students complete freshman and sophomore years and transfer to a four-year college or university – and AA/AS degrees and certificates in over 70 career fields. The District’s 2400 square mile service area includes Sacramento and El Dorado counties and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties. Approximately 75,000 plus students are enrolled in our four colleges and outreach centers.

The District office houses a number of district-wide services. These include the Chancellor’s office, Board Room, Legal Services, Business Services, Human Resources, Institutional Research, District Police Department, Resource Development and Information Technology. Other district-wide services which can be found at various locations around the community are the, Facilities Management Department and the Workforce and Economic Development Center. Each department strives for the highest quality in all programs, services, and activities for our communities and staff.

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the assigned administrator, confers with faculty and staff to design, produce, modify, and evaluate computer-based multimedia, web-based presentations, and other media applications to include audio, video, graphic, web/electronic publishing, digital photography, imagery, web design and programming.

This position is assigned to the Public Information Office at Folsom Lake College.

Assignment Responsibilities

• Designs, constructs, and maintains various college websites.
• Designs and applies computer-based and web-based multimedia and multimedia video packages to support the specific needs for technologically sophisticated products to facilitate the learning experience for students; and assists in the design of web-based courses.
• Provides programming, design support and database integration for the web-based content management system and similar web applications through the use of relevant scripting and programming languages such as XML, XSLT, XPATH, JavaScript, and HTML.
• Designs, constructs, programs and implements web page templates for use by college departments, faculty and staff.
• Serves as a resource person to faculty and staff for designing and utilizing technology in instructional settings based on sound pedagogy to meet established learning objectives.
• Serves as a technical resource and facilitator for instructors, lab assistants, and other staff.
• Acquires, installs, and maintains computer equipment, software, and related peripherals as needed for the position.
• Develops and presents workshops on the use of various software packages for faculty and staff.
• Provides assistance in various software applications, on MAC or PC to faculty and staff.
• Develops and presents workshops and tutorials on Internet and multimedia technologies.
• Develops training materials, such as syllabi and visual aids for specific workshops.
• Evaluates equipment, courseware, and authoring systems.
• Keeps abreast of the latest developments and innovations in the field of media product design and emerging technologies.
• Assists in overseeing the work of student workers.
• Maintains records documenting individual training and qualifications.
• Performs related duties as required.

Special Requirements
Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience in web design/publication and application of computer-based multimedia for instructional or training purposes, including experience in using courseware, multimedia authoring systems, development and production software/equipment, digital imaging, audio, and video. Experience in using programming languages common in content management systems and similar web applications.

EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology, instructional communications, computer information science, media communication or related fields, or an A.A. degree in computer science or related discipline plus two additional years of qualifying experience.

Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.

(Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: 12 units are equal to six months of education; 24 units are equal to one year of education.)
