Position Summary

Under the general direction of the Vice President of Instruction, the Dean of Business and Computer Science performs duties in the administration and supervision of the instructional area, including instructor assignments, class schedules, staff evaluation and development, curriculum evaluation and development, budget recommendations, and facilities utilization and administration for day, extended day, weekend, and summer offerings.

The Dean of Business and Computer Science provides supervision of the affairs of the area, coordinates the activities of the faculty and staff of the area, and works with district and college staff in all areas of responsibility.

The academic disciplines which the Dean of Business and Computer Science supervises are: Accounting, Business, Business Technology, Computer Information Science, Management, Marketing, and Real Estate.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Developing departmental master plans and identifying industry trends, enrollment trends, and program needs analysis.
● Acting as a liaison with industry representatives and with vocational program advisory committees.
● Supervising evaluation and selection of computer software and hardware and other instructional equipment.
● Articulating with secondary and adult schools, colleges, and universities.
● Writing grants and resource development.
● Developing community-based partnerships.
● Developing and evaluating programs and curriculum.
● Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

Administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off campus work and/or hours.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Have a master’s degree* from an accredited institution complete by January 2, 2018.

2. Have one year formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
