The Institution

The Los Rios Community College District is a two-year public college district serving the greater Sacramento region. Our district includes American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City colleges; major centers in Placerville, Davis, West Sacramento, Elk Grove, Natomas and Rancho Cordova; and special services for business and industry.

Our colleges offer transfer education – students complete freshman and sophomore years and transfer to a four-year college or university – and AA/AS degrees and certificates in over 70 career fields. The District’s 2400 square mile service area includes Sacramento and El Dorado counties and parts of Yolo, Placer, and Solano counties. Approximately 75,000 plus students are enrolled in our four colleges and outreach centers.

The District office houses a number of district-wide services. These include the Chancellor’s office, Board Room, Legal Services, Business Services, Human Resources, Institutional Research, Resource Development and Information Technology. Other district-wide services which can be found at various locations around the community are the, Facilities Management Department, District Police Department, and the Workforce and Economic Development Center. Each department strives for the highest quality in all programs, services, and activities for our communities and staff.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of an assigned administrator, plans, coordinates, organizes and provides a variety of student services and information on college programs to facilitate recruitment and retention of students. Assignment Responsibilities

● Explains the college educational outreach program to individuals and community organizations and seeks information concerning the need for additional programs.
● Plans, organizes, coordinates and directs activities and events, including team efforts that facilitate student orientation and outreach such as the Welcome and Information Center.
● Coordinates and develops college activities designed to promote recruitment efforts, which may include visitations to secondary schools and community based organizations.
● Coordinates Early Alert/Assistance program.
● Coordinates one-stop philosophy related to recruitment and matriculation efforts; and coordinates community agency liaison.
● Assists in the development and coordination of tele-counseling with area high schools; and represents the college at feeder high schools by maintaining a presence at these locations.
● Provides information and referrals to students, staff, and community on college programs and procedures.
● Represents the college at community functions and organizational meetings.
● Develops, organizes, supervises and attends workshops, forums, conferences, and related college-sponsored events; and attends appropriate conferences, workshops, and staff and committee meetings as directed.
● Assists in the development and/or selection of marketing and promotional materials, including appropriate media packages; and interfaces with other college departments on marketing strategies.
● Conducts orientation sessions.
● Serves as a resource person to staff, students, and the community; and conducts periodic training sessions and workshops for peer assistants, student ambassadors and student workers.
● Assists in budget planning and maintenance.
● Hires, trains, and oversees student ambassadors.
● Oversees student workers; and tracks student contacts to monitor services required and provide follow-up throughout the enrollment process.
● Provides data for institutional research.
● Performs follow-up studies and evaluations of outreach services.
● Prepares and monitors outreach master calendar.
● Performs related duties as required.

Special Requirements
Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE: Two years of successful experience involving responsibility in a variety of student or community service programs. Experience working with students and/or target groups in public relations and information campaigns is desirable.

EDUCATION: Completion of a Baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution. NOTE: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for two years of the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles. (Experience Requirement: One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at a maximum of 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement. Education Requirement: 12 units are equal to six months of education; 24 units are equal to one year of education.)
