Position Summary

Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Student Services (Grant Programs), the primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: overseeing a large and complex department of more than 60 faculty and staff including, Counseling Services, Student Success and Support Program, Student Follow-up Services specific to counseling, Athletic Counseling, Probation/Dismissal, Advanced Education, Assessment, Transfer Center, PUENTE, Umoja, Articulation, Human and Career Development (HCD) instructional program and curriculum, and counseling services in the HUB, Counseling Center, Natomas Center, and McClellan.

Guiding the development and evaluation of the planning agendas for those departments and programs in the area of responsibility including program review, Education Master Plan (EMP), Human Career Development (HCD), Student Services Outcomes (SSO), Student Learning Outcomes (SLO), and program goals, outcomes and assessments; developing budget processes for all identified student services programs; creating a positive environment that supports innovation, teamwork, and successful outcomes; and maintaining a thorough understanding of all area services in order to effectively advocate for programs, allocate resources, and provide informed and effective guidance to the Associate Vice President of Student Services (Grants Programs).

● Problem solving and conflict management resolution.

Assignment Responsibilities

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to:
● Representing the college in local, state, and regional events and activities that involve counseling, matriculation services, and other student services programs.
● Recommending selection of candidates for certificated and classified positions in the areas of responsibility.
● Reviewing and approving administrative duties such as work schedules, conference requests, absence reports, professional growth, and evaluation of assigned staff.
● Collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and making presentations as requested from district, state, and national authorities in support of student services goals and research efforts.
● Effectively leading faculty and staff as they reorganize service, implement new technology solutions, and partner with instructional and classified colleagues to more effectively address the needs of students.
● Working collaboratively with instructional and student services deans promoting strategies to involve faculty and staff in creating programs that support student success.
● Serving as campus Grievance Officer, administering and providing awareness of college policies and regulations on student grievance.
● Serving as a member of the Curriculum Committee and Basic Skills Council.
● Working flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, when necessary.
● Performing other duties as assigned.

Administrative assignment may include day, evening, weekend, and/or off campus work and/or hours.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Have a master’s degree* from an accredited institution complete by January 11, 2018.

2. Have one year formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrator’s administrative assignment.

3. Have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles.
